Congratulations to Isgouhi Kaloshian, Chair of Nematology

Elected to the 2019 Class of AAAS Fellows

Please join the IIGB and CEPCEB community in congratulating Professor Kaloshian, elected as an American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) member to the 2019 Class of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows.

This award recognizes AAAS members “whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished,” and based on their contributions to science and technology in their research; teaching; and communicating and interpreting science to the public. She will receive this award at the 2020 AAAS annual meeting.

Professor Kaloshian obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees from American University of Beirut in Lebanon, and completed her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of California Riverside, where she identified and mapped a root-knot nematode resistance gene in a wild relative of wheat. During her postdoctoral research she helped clone the first nematode resistance gene Mi-1 and discovered that the Mi locus in tomato also confer resistance to potato aphids.

Congratulations on a well-deserved distinction with a notable impact on the plant research reputation at UCR.
