I am an undergraduate student at the University of California Riverside. Am I eligible to apply for this internship?
Yes, but students from outside UCR are prioritized.

I will graduate with my undergraduate degree in the spring of 2024 semester. Can I apply for the internship?
No, the internship funds can only be used to fund currently enrolled undergraduate students who will continue their undergraduate studies in fall 2024.

Do I already need to know all the skills listed in the project descriptions?
No, you only need an interest to learn. You will be trained on project-specific skills.

Will I get any reimbursement for travel expenses?
Travel expenses will be paid for and arranged prior to the REU start date.

Will I need my personal vehicle?
A personal vehicle is not necessary but may be desired. If bringing a personal vehicle, a campus parking permit would be required, which can be purchased from UCR Transportation Services.

Are there any organized activities?
As part of your summer program, you will be participating in various activities in and around Riverside. The weather during summers in Riverside can be pretty warm and hot, so it's important to plan your wardrobe accordingly to stay comfortable. We recommend bringing a sun hat, water, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun and heat. Previous activities have included bowling and visits to botanical gardens.

What is the poster session like?
The poster session will be in the last week of the internship. It will be a two-hour session, where people from our department and the college will come and talk to you about your summer project and things you learned during your internship.

Will I get access to exercise facilities?
No, however, you can purchase your own access to the rec center for REU interns. Visit the recreational services website for more details on the facilities available.

Will the COVID-19 pandemic affect the program?
The program is subject to the University of Riverside California policy. Currently, we do not anticipate any major impact, but the program is subject to cancellation or change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If we need to make major changes or cancellations, we will inform selected participants as soon as possible.
